About Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the second entry in the FNAF series, developed and published by Scott Cawthon. Released on November 10, 2014, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 serves as a prequel set at a reopened Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location. You play as Jeremy Fitzgerald, the new night security guard who must survive from midnight to 6 AM against two groups of animatronics: the shiny new toy animatronics and the damaged withered animatronics from the original restaurant, now stored for parts. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 significantly changes the formula by removing the security doors entirely. Instead, the office has three open entry points — the main hallway and two air vents — and you defend yourself with a flashlight, a camera system linked to a music box, and an empty Freddy Fazbear head that you wear to fool most animatronics into thinking you are one of them. The pacing in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is faster and more chaotic, with more animatronics attacking from more directions, making it one of the most challenging games in the franchise.

How to Play Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Freddy Fazbear Mask

Your main defense in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is an empty Freddy Fazbear head that you quickly put on when an animatronic enters the office. Most toy and withered animatronics are fooled into thinking you are another animatronic. However, Withered Foxy and The Puppet are not fooled by the mask, so you need different strategies for them.

Flashlight

The flashlight is essential for checking the main hallway and the blind spots at both vent entrances. It also deters Withered Foxy — flashing the light at him repeatedly when he appears in the hallway forces him to retreat. Without the flashlight, you cannot see incoming threats in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Music Box

A music box in the Prize Corner (Camera 11) must be wound up regularly through the camera monitor. If the music box fully unwinds, The Puppet emerges and attacks — and it cannot be stopped by the Freddy mask or any other tool. Keeping the music box wound is a constant background task throughout every night in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Vent Monitoring

Animatronics enter the office through the left and right air vents in addition to the main hallway. Checking the vent lights helps you see if an animatronic is about to crawl in. When one appears, you must quickly put on the Freddy mask before it reaches you.

Characters in Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Toy Freddy

A sleeker, kid-friendly version of Freddy Fazbear. Toy Freddy starts on the Show Stage and moves through the Game Area toward the main hall. Putting on the Freddy mask wards him off when he reaches the office.

Toy Bonnie

A bright blue redesign of Bonnie with green eyes and a more plastic appearance. Toy Bonnie approaches through the right air vent and can be deterred by the Freddy mask when spotted in the vent blind spot.

Toy Chica

A redesigned version of Chica with a more feminine appearance. She approaches through the left air vent. When she leaves the Show Stage, her beak and eyes disappear, giving her a disturbing look. The Freddy mask stops her in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Mangle

Originally Toy Foxy, Mangle was repeatedly torn apart by children and eventually left in a mangled state. Mangle starts in Kid's Cove and makes distinctive static noises when nearby. It attacks from the right air vent and can be deterred with the Freddy mask.

The Puppet

Also known as the Marionette, The Puppet lives inside the Prize Corner gift box. It is kept dormant by the music box — if the music stops, The Puppet slowly leaves its box and attacks. The Freddy mask does not work against The Puppet, making the music box your only defense.

Balloon Boy

A small humanoid animatronic who enters through the left air vent. Balloon Boy does not directly jumpscare you, but if he enters the office, he disables your flashlight and vent lights, leaving you vulnerable to other animatronics. The Freddy mask can prevent him from entering.

Withered Freddy

The original Freddy from the first restaurant, now damaged and stored for parts. He becomes active from Night 3 and moves from Parts/Service through the main hall toward the office. The Freddy mask wards him off.

Withered Foxy

The damaged original Foxy who appears in the main hallway. Unlike other animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, Withered Foxy is not fooled by the Freddy mask. You must flash the flashlight at him repeatedly to make him retreat.

Tips for Five Nights at Freddy's 2

  1. Wind the music box at the start of every camera check — if The Puppet escapes, there is no way to stop it. This is the single most important habit in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
  2. Flash the hallway light regularly to check for Withered Foxy. He ignores the Freddy mask, so the flashlight is your only defense against him.
  3. When you see an animatronic in the office or vent blind spot, put on the Freddy mask immediately. Speed is critical since there are no doors to close.
  4. On later nights, animatronics attack from all three entry points simultaneously. Develop a cycle: wind music box, check left vent, check right vent, check hallway.
  5. Balloon Boy is deceptively dangerous. If he enters the office and disables your flashlight, you lose your defense against Withered Foxy and cannot check the hallway.
  6. Listen for audio cues — Mangle's static noise and Balloon Boy's laughter tell you they are nearby before you see them.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the second game in the FNAF series by Scott Cawthon. Released in November 2014, it is set as a prequel at a reopened Freddy Fazbear's Pizza where you face both new toy animatronics and damaged withered animatronics from the original location.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is a prequel. Despite being the second game released, the story takes place before the events of the first game. The paycheck at the end confirms the year is 1987, predating the original Five Nights at Freddy's.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 features eleven animatronics: five toy models (Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, Mangle, and Balloon Boy), The Puppet, four withered models (Withered Freddy, Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, and Withered Foxy), and Golden Freddy.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 replaces the security doors from the original game with an empty Freddy Fazbear head that you wear to fool animatronics. The office has three open entry points — a main hallway and two air vents — requiring faster reflexes and better multitasking.

The music box keeps The Puppet contained in the Prize Corner. You must wind it regularly through the camera monitor. If it fully unwinds, The Puppet emerges and attacks, and no defense can stop it — not even the Freddy mask.
